Champlain Heights Community Centre Association is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong organizational and leadership skills to manage our summer “Sunsplash” supported day camp program for up to 50 children ages 6-12 years, and supervising a team of up to 8 staff .
Qualifications:
- Strong leadership, organizational, administration and planning skills
- Strong knowledge of age and developmentally-appropriate day camp activities & out trips for children
- Experience supervising, training and coaching staff and volunteers
- At least one year of practical experience working with children/youth and planning programs
- Have/pursuing an education in related field is desirable
- Excellent problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with children who are from diverse cultures, developmental abilities and economic backgrounds
- Proficiency with e-mails and MS Office Suite
- Fluency in a second language is an asset
Job Specifications:
In consultation with the Recreation Programmer/Community Youth Worker:
- Train and supervise program leaders and volunteers
- Provide direction and clarity for staff and volunteers, encourage input, foster communication and provide feedback to children, parents, leaders and programmer(s)
- Ensure all appropriate program information is distributed to parents/guardians
- Plan, schedule and promote day camp programs and its activities
- Administer the program, including attendance management, distribution and reconciliation of program funds, purchasing of supplies, booking activities and monitoring staff hours
- Actively ensure safety of children, staff and volunteers through following safety guidelines and communicating risk management procedures
- Prepare program evaluations, complete final program report and complete other tasks as required
- Participate regularly in program out-trips
- Collaborate with the City of Vancouver’s ACCESS and Inclusion team to support campers and families requiring additional support
Conditions of Employment:
- Successful completion of a Police Information Check
- Current First Aid/CPR level C certification or willingness to obtain prior to the first day of the program
- As conditions of a position covered by the Canada Summer Jobs grant, the successful applicant must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years. And must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection As well must be available to work the full duration of the dates stated below.
- Preference will be given to those who are choosing a career in recreation, education, social services or social sciences
Rate of Pay: $26.00 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation.
Job Duration/Hours of Work: 30 to 40 hours a week Monday through Friday for up to 14 weeks of employment from May 26th to August 29th, 2025.
