Champlain Heights Community Association is looking for an organized and responsible individual to support day camp participants requiring additional support to have a positive camp experience for roughly 80 children ages 6 to 14 years.

 Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children and/or others with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities (games, sports, outings and arts & crafts) for children ages 6 to 14 years and ability to adapt activities to neuro-developmental differences
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership & problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a staff team
  • Ability & willingness to work within a culturally, economically and socially diverse community
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with emergencies, unusual incidents and behavior challenges
  • Demonstrated administrative skills in program planning, word processing and reporting
  • Encourages positive behavior through teaching, encouragement, modeling/mentoring and natural/logical consequence methods 

Job Specifications:

  • Liase & work with the Recreation Programmer II, Community Youth Worker and Access Services department to ensure an inclusive environment for all participants for the summer day camp program
  • Collaborate with day camp staff to assist with planning and adapting activities that are accessible for participants
  • Lead in the modification of activities, communication methods and provision of alternate activities for participants that require extra support
  • Participate in the daily activities and out-trips to support both staff and participants
  • Deal effectively with challenging behaviour
  • Liaise and communicate with parents/guardians to discuss best practices for their child; provide caregivers with daily check-ins or email correspondence and provide any success stories at the end of the week via email
  • Participate in the training, mentoring and evaluation of volunteers
  • Submit a final report to discuss successes and challenges with individual campers and general day camp operations; provide recommendations for next year’s day camp team

 Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful Police Information Check clearance
  • Current Emergency or Standard First Aid and CPR C certification
  • Completion of Grade 12 and some experience support people with disabilities; currently enrolled or completed diploma in Recreation Therapy, Support Services or related education an asset
  • As conditions of a position covered by the Canada Summer Jobs grant, the successful applicant must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years, be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or have conferred refugee protection

Rate of Pay:

  • $25/hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation and benefits

Job Duration:

  • Up to 12 weeks of employment between June 15 to September 4, 2026

Hours of Work:

  • 35 hours per week/ Monday to Friday excluding statutory holidays
