Job Posting: Summer Day Camp Leader & Manager Positions

 Summer Day Camp – Junior Leaders

 Champlain Heights Community Centre is seeking an outgoing, personable individual, with experience in leading and inspiring children, to work with other Leaders and the Project Manger to plan and implement summer day camp programs for 6-12 year olds.

In compliance with the Canada Summer Jobs/ESDC guidelines, all applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age and clear a criminal record check upon hiring.

Qualifications:

  • Some experience working with children in a recreational or educational program delivery setting
  • Standard First Aid & CPR C certification
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must express genuine interest in working with children of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset
  • Attributes to include diligence, enthusiasm and a proven desire to develop leadership skills

Job Specifications:

  • Assist Senior Leaders in the program planning and implementation
  • Assist Senior Leaders in the supervision of program participants for all types of activities
  • Follow the directions of staff in relation to all aspects of the program
  • Maintain good communication with parents, children, and co-workers

Rate of Pay:     $15.04 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation

Job Duration:  Up to 8 weeks of employment between July to September, 2020.  Exact dates TBD.

NoteHours per week and period of employment are dependent upon Canada Summer Jobs/ESDC funding.  Employment also dependent on completion of criminal record check.

  • Valid First Aid & CPR certification
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of age appropriate activities in the areas of sports, arts, culture, outdoor recreation and environmental studies
  • Strong leadership, administration and planning skills
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with children who are from diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset

Job Specifications:

  • Work with a team to plan, advertise and implement a wide range of day camp activities
  • Follow, at all times, established procedures and guidelines to ensure the safety of all program participants and staff
  • Encourage physical and mental fitness through exposure to a wide range of cultural, artistic and recreational activities
  • Work with a group of peers to deliver a safe, fun, creative environment for day camp participants each and every day
  • Build positive relationships with participants, parents, guardians, co-worker’s and the community through active participation in program activities
  • Provide feedback to parents, guardians and participants that foster self-confidence and positive social behaviours
  • Provide a positive role model to participants at all times
  • Demonstrate ability to handle petty cash funds

Rate of Pay:     $16.33 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation

Job Duration: Up to 8 weeks of employment between July to September, 2020

 Summer Day Camp – Project Manager

Champlain Heights Community Centre is seeking a highly organized individual with strong leadership skills and past experience working with children’s community centre camp programs to oversee the “Sunsplash Outdoor Summer Day Camp” for 6-12 year olds.

In compliance with the Canada Summer Jobs/ESDC guidelines, all applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age and clear a criminal record check upon hiring.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, administration and planning skill
  • Strong knowledge of age-appropriate day camp activities & out trips for children
  • At least one year of practical experience working with children/youth and planning programs
  • Have/pursuing an education in related field is desirable
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Standard First Aid & CPR C certification
  • Ability to work with children who are from diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
  • Proficiency with e-mails and MS Office Suite
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset
  • Class 4 driver’s license an asset, or willing to obtain

Job Specifications:     In consultation with the Recreation Programmer/Community Youth Worker:

  • Recruit, train and supervise program leaders
  • Provide leadership and clarity for staff, encourage input, foster positive communication and provide feedback to children, parents, leaders and programmer(s)
  • Manage work schedules and operate services within a set budget
  • Ensure all appropriate program information is distributed to parents/guardians
  • Plan, schedule and promote day camp programs and its activities
  • Administer the program, including registration follow up, distribution and reconciliation of program funds, purchasing of supplies and booking activities.
  • Actively ensure the health and safety of children and staff through following safety guidelines and communicating risk management procedures
  • Prepare program evaluations, complete final program report and complete other tasks as required
  • Participate in program out-trips and assume related duties as assigned.

Rate of Pay:     $19.57 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation
