Description:

Prepare for a summer filled with fun and adventure! Out activities will include indoor and outdoor sports, cooperative games, arts & crafts, theatre, dance parties, entertainers, and special guests! We?ll embark on 2 field-trips each week, travelling by public transit and charter bus to explore the city and the great outdoors. Parents/Guardians will receive an email with the Parent Communication/Policy manual and forms before camp, detailing camp expectations and guidelines. Children must have completed kindergarten and be eligible for grade 1, or have just completed grade 7, to register for camp. Day Camps generally include 1-2 fun and engaging outings each week for children of varying ages and interests, offering a blend of sensory-rich and imaginative experiences. Participants will explore bustling urban areas, learn about their environment, and take part in different activities that promote social connection, adventure, and physical activity. This daycamp is held at Champlain Heights Main School multipurpose rooms and gym. The weekly schedule also includes going to the spray park/pools and more. The sensory environment may include loud noises, bright lights, or crowded spaces. Staff prepare a daily visual schedule to help campers know what to expect for the day. Sensory resource kits may be available, including [noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, fidget tools, and visual aids]. The day camp space includes a chill-out zone and a low-sensory area, with staff working to provide quiet breaks in low-stimulation zones. Program staff are typically post-secondary students with diverse interests and levels of experience, and generally between 18 and 22 years old. This program has a staff-to-participant ratio of 1:10, with additional support from youth volunteers. This camp also employs a designated Behavior Support Leader (BSL), who works with families and day camp staff to help campers needing additional support to be able to participate in day camp. Limited additional support is available for children (6-12yrs) with disabilities wanting to attend the Sunsplash summer day camp. If you are interested in learning about this support please contact Access.services@vancouver.ca or call 604 654 0978 for information and an application form. There is a maximum of two weeks of support available per child and there are eligibility requirements. One to one support is not provided. Online registration is not available.
